Love came down at Christmas

JWP, Going Postal

Love came down at Christmas,
love all lovely, Love divine;
love was born at Christmas,
star and angels gave the sign.

Worship we the Godhead,
love incarnate, Love divine;
worship we our Jesus:
but wherewith for sacred sign?

Love shall be our token,
love be yours and love be mine,
Love to God and all men,
love for plea and gift and sign.

selection of lean game meat, about 1kg/2¼lb in all, which could include:

  • breasts of pheasant (hung about 5 days)
  • breasts of pigeon
  • breasts of duck or other wild fowl
  • saddle and hindquarters of 1 rabbit, boned
  • saddle and hindquarters of hare, boned
  • lean strips of venison (from the leg or fillet)
  • oil or butter, for frying

A Collie Christmas

We all know what happens at Christmas. The timing varies only depending on certain circumstances, such as  having young kids in the house, or elderly relatives:
Breakfast optional - presents must be unwrapped at first light or after breakfast - mum emigrates to the  kitchen to deal with the Turkey - Dad, granddad, uncles, older brothers emigrate to the pub if open,  otherwise, the various cans of beer and lager need to be tested. Grannies, aunts, older sisters either help  in the kitchen (to the horror of mum) or are delegated to keep the bloody kids quiet and prevent inter- sibling warfare.
Meanwhile, scores of mince pies and chocolates are being scoffed …
Then, finally - The Turkey! With all the trimmings! And: The Plum Pudding, with brandy sauce, brandy cream,  brandy in it’s natural liquid state …
Then, when everybody is bursting and quiet: the telly! The Queen!
More sherry, dear?
Let’s draw the curtain over the rest of the day, from squabbles amongst kids to fisticuffs amongst  relatives, until everybody sinks into their beds, sodden with alcohol and swearing never ever ever to have  turkey again. Evah. Until next year ….

A Going Postal abridged fairy story – Coal Black and the seven intellectual dwarfs

Northern Man, Going Postal

Scene 1 – a fairytale castle.  The sun is setting, the birds are singing and multi-coloured pennants are flying from the flagpoles.  We are in a stately bedroom, with a four-poster bed and a large and ornate alabaster-framed mirror on the wall.  Enter the Queen....

Queen Yasmin Alibaba Notwhite:  “Well, another busy day sending communiques to the lower orders.  Probably a waste of time.  I bet most of them can't read.  How I despise them.  Still Princess Coal Black is tucked up for the night so time for the traditional check” [turns to the mirror and says, in an unnecessarily dramatic voice] “O magic mirror on the wall, who is the most racist one of all?”

How Right Are You?

Coloniescross, Going Postal

It’s always nice at this time of year to spend a little time in the company of friends and relatives. Sometimes though family gatherings and parties can be disrupted or can even descend into violent anarchy if the people sharing the festive food and drink aren’t like minded on the main topics of the day.

With this in mind Swiss French Bob asked Colin Cross if he could devise a fun, news based quiz to make sure all the social gatherings that you might attend, even that often fractious Christmas Lunch with your brother who works for the council and your sister in law who is a deputy head at an inner city state school, go ahead without a hitch.

After a little thought Colin came up with a multiple choice quiz designed to be topical, entertaining and fun for all the family.

All you need to play RIGHT ON, ALT-RIGHT, ULTRA FAR RIGHT are some pencils and as many multiple choice quiz sheets as you need to ensure each adult has their own.

Into the lions’ den I know, but here goes…  And it’s that time of year so show some goodwill…

Firstly, I write to explain: it’s my personal viewpoint, no one else’s, and neither to convince nor argue into belief.  Second I am in some ways a reluctant Christian: it’s against my naturally confrontational and driven personality, but I’m a better person for my faith even if it is a struggle.  I was 30 years ago a strident atheist having rebelled against my upbringing, but bit by bit as I studied for my doctorate in Classics my work shredded my atheism, fading it into agnosticism, then deism and finally into an unorthodox orthodox protestant Christianity informed initially by scholarship and latterly, after many years in business, by life experience and the gaining of, hopefully, some wisdom.

War, Hnnghh! What is it good for?

Bobo. Going Postal
Over the course of the Holiday Season it is inevitable that you will be dragooned by the wife into attending  some kind of social event: a ‘dinner’ or other party. Equally inevitably the host at one of these gatherings  will play the song ‘War’ by Edwin Starr. And, events marching resolutely onwards into a zone in which the  word inevitable has lost all significance, some spindle-shanked, luxuriantly bearded Hipster stick insect  will turn to you and say “War, yeah? What IS it good for?’

Apparently, nowadays, punching this sort of person in the face is considered a faux pas and may even be  against the law. However no red-blooded Englishman should be forced to endure this kind of treatment without  recourse to self defence, and over the years I have developed a crib sheet for precisely this eventuality.  It is a succinct and easily memorised counterblast, designed to expose your interlocutor’s glib comment as  symptomatic of the namby-pamby intellectual shallowness that it is. And, in the spirit of goodwill to all  men, I am prepared to share it with you so that you too may be, as the Hindu deity said, four-armed.  (Surveys the audience. Takes stony silence as evidence of intense interest) Splendid! We shall continue.

The Discriminant

The Powers That Be and their Lügenpresse continue to abuse our language.  Populism is now a pejorative word to be used against the electorate.  Discrimination is added to the list.

The verdict in the case against Geert Wilders was delivered on Friday in the Netherlands.  He was found innocent of inciting racial hatred.  However, the court contrived to find him guilty of insult towards a race, namely, Moroccans, as recently defined by the Dutch Prosecutor, and of inciting discrimination.

They fined him exactly €0.00.

A logical consequence of this is that the teaching of quadratic equations and conic sections is to be banned in Dutch schools.  In mathematics a discriminant is a powerful tool and a positive word.  Let me explain.

Please excuse the headline, fellow GP readers. I do not deliberately exclude any from the other three dominions that make up Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It is used here as a perfect example of one the belittling attributes used by the Remain side in the referendum debate both before and after the event. In fact the verbal and written attacks in the media on the Leave voters would lead an outsider to believe, unaware of the democratic decision of June 23rd, that there had been some kind of revolutionary coup against an elected government.  These are just some of the epithets hurled at Leave voters:

The GP Advent Calendar of Cuisine -- Roast Cormorant by Tachybaptus

Going Postal

Having shot your cormorant, hold it well away from you as you carry it home; these birds are exceedingly verminous and the lice are said to be not entirely host-specific. Hang up by the feet with a piece of wire, soak in petrol and set on fire. This treatment both removes most of the feathers and kills the lice.

When the smoke has cleared away, take the cormorant down and cut off the beak. Send this to the local Conservancy Board who, if you are in the right area, will give you 3/6d or sometimes 5/- for it. Bury the carcase, preferably in a light sandy soil, and leave it there for a fortnight. This is said to improve the flavour by removing, in part at least, the taste of rotting fish.

Dig up and skin and draw the bird. Place in a strong salt and water solution and soak for 48 hours. Remove, dry, stuff with whole, unpeeled onions: the onion skins are supposed to bleach the meat to a small extent, so that it is very dark brown instead of being entirely black.

Look, I know it’s nearly Christmas and we should all be full of good cheer and the spirit of the season,  apart from the bah humbug contingent (we know who you are) but late last week a piece of news, almost  totally ignored by the MSM, shocked me more than I thought I could be shocked.

We are all used to the almost never ending “fake news” stories, filling our papers and television screens,  concerning the 100’s of 1,000’s of children either starving to death in Aleppo or getting their brains  beaten out against the ruined walls of temples by insane Russian militiamen.

We continue to be assailed by the ABBC news readers and commentators continually briefing us about the brave  “rebels” and their continuing game of “dodge the barrel bomb” or “avoid the chlorine cloud”.

Anders' Army

Dalester, Going Postal
Polish volunteers released by Stalin
My Dad fought with XXX Corps in Egypt and used to tell a tale about a polish cavalry unit that arrived  there he thought, all the way from Poland. On arrival in Egypt he said that the horses were in much better  condition than the men as they had walked the 1000s of miles to save the horses for when they needed them.

I tended to treat this tale with a pinch of salt until I came across an extraordinary account of  the efforts made by polish soldiers to get back into the war after being defeated by the Russians, many  having been held in hundreds of Gulags in Russia until the Germans turned on the Russians, and others, who  made amazing journeys from Poland to Iran in order to continue the fight.

At the fall of Poland in 1939, some Polish units had joined the French Army of the Levant in the hope of  continuing the war but after the defeat of France, they were ordered to quit the French Army by General  Wladislaw Sikorsi because French General, Eugene Mittelhauser, had decided to side with Petain and the  Vichy Government. The “Polish Brigade” then made its way to Palestine where the British clothed, fed and re-armed them. They initially numbered some 319 officers and 3,437 soldiers, later to grow to around  5000 as yet more continued to arrived. I believe it was one such Polish Cavalry unit that my father witnessed eventually arriving in Egypt later in the war. This rag-tag unit of Polish escapees was  notable for the high levels of well educated men in its ranks and was quickly rearmed and renamed  “the Polish Independent Brigade Group” and became to all intents and purposes a British Motorised Infantry  Brigade.

The Democratisation of Information

Rorschach / Mr Cloud, Going Postal

In the first week of December 2016, 28 year old Edgar Maddison Welch walked into the Washington based Comet Ping Pong pizza restaurant armed with an AR-15 assault rifle and let off a shot. He was taken into custody without incident. Welch it had turned out had come to "self investigate" reports that had found there way onto the internet that this pizza restaurant was somehow involved in a sex trafficking ring taking place in its basement (it didn't actually have one) that was being run by high profile members of the Democratic Party, including Hillary Clinton herself and her campaign manager John Podesta. Around the same time, 57 year old Lucy Richards from Florida was charged with making death threats to a family of one of the Sandy Hook victims. Richards, like Welch, it seemed had come to be convinced of an internet conspiracy theory that peddled the idea that the massacre was a hoax.

The GP Advent Calendar of Cuisine - Christmas Dinner by Coloniescross

Coloniescross, Going Postal
NOT Coloniescross's Christmas Turkey

A Recipe for Christmas Day for those with the patience

I host Christmas Dinner at my house every 2 or 3 years and when I do I like to push the boat right out. I  am lucky enough to have a very good turkey grower a couple of miles away from me and he sells “at the  gate”. We go so far as to pretend we pick our own from the live birds, but it adds to the “crack”, so to  speak. 4 years ago I discovered that my youngest daughter wasn’t a big fan of breast meat but she liked the  thigh, as do I, so I came up with a recipe for stuffed Turkey thigh.

Removing the legs and thighs allows for the Turkey to sit better in the roasting tin and for the cooking  period to be significantly reduced. I cook the turkey crown with an onion and a halved lemon in the cavity,  along with a bunch of mixed herbs and I completely cover it with streaky bacon which I remove about 30  minutes before I take the bird from the oven to rest The drumsticks can be roasted under the crown and  removed when cooked through (about an hour or so, dependent on size of bird).

The stuffed thighs I cook separately, they take about 35-45 mins in a moderate oven and can be done while  the bird is resting (the Turkey, not the missus).

Christmas Films by MyHyde

Going Postal

I think every Christian individual has his or her own Christmas tradition that is unique to their own persons. We have our cultural traditions, that of the Christmas dinner, the tree with the dim lights, and presents (naturally). Then we have our family traditions. Some families have specific foods they eat, others have that Christmas song that they can recite in perfect harmony.

My Christmas tradition stems from my passion for films. If done right, it shuts people up and makes them pay attention. Pausing from their phones to be drawn into wonderful world of cinema.

When deciding a classic Christmas film to watch, you have two stems of Christmas film theory; straightforward Christmas films and the “just watch at Christmas”, Christmas films. The first group is simple. Films like the Jimmy Stewart classic It's a Wonderful Life, a box office disaster at the time of release, thanks to its cheap cost to run on TV, has become a stable of Christmas time and cheer. A Christmas Story, my personal favourite of the former group of Christmas films, has always been stuck in my heart because I related to it so much when I first saw it. A film that richly celebrated family life and its utter dysfunctionality. Others include every adaption of a Christmas Carol, White Christmas, and the still funny Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, among others.

Monday someone posted up a tweet from a Mr Doug Farquhar, I'm sure some of you do it just to wind me up. Mr Farquhar tweeted that:

The GP Advent Calendar of Cuisine -- Chicken with pineapple à la Fidel Castro

Tachybaptus, Going Postal

Serves 4 to 6

This is perhaps the only good thing to emerge from that dismal person. It is, quite genuinely, a dish cooked by Castro's guerrilla band when they were fighting to overthrow the Cuban government. It was recorded by the French war correspondent Gérard Chaliand.

The men would descend on a village and commandeer the ingredients at gunpoint. In the original version the chicken would have been a very tough village bird, and it would be marinated in fresh pineapple juice to make it tender before cooking. With supermarket chicken this is no longer necessary. Also, the fresh pineapple available in Britain is always nastily underripe and it's better to used canned, but this is pasteurised and the tenderising enzyme has been broken down.

The sun beat down on old Tangier

Ozymandias, Going Postal

Illuminating a timeless scene; the noisy crowds thronged the square, merchants filled the air with their imprecations to buy as their would-be customers tried in turn to beat them down to a more acceptable price. The bright sunlight only heightened the riot of colours of the wares on sale, from bright piles of aromatic spices to a veritable rainbow of bolts of finest silk.

Into this crowded and cacophonous scene entered an unobtrusive figure clad in a linen suit and Panama hat. He seemed neither to hurry nor push but gradually made his way through the heaving mass of humanity which, as he progressed, flowed over his path, swallowing up each and every trace of his passing (though this was not difficult when they merely consisted of footprints in the sand and the occasional drop of blood).

He paused for a moment and put his hand to his eyes as he looked for suitably tall building; locating one, a hotel of a dozen or so storeys a few blocks away, he resumed his unhurried journey. Time was not on his side but why rush? No-one was going anywhere quickly on market day. Accepting this at least kept the blood pressure low, even if it didn’t result in faster progress.

The GP Advent Calendar of Cuisine - Kent’s Festive Thai Green Curry

Kent, Going Postal

Again this is not a traditional festive recipe (although I have served it to family and friends during the  festive period where I invariably get absolutely trollied much to Mrs Kent’s distain) nor is it a traditional  Thai green curry recipe as that contains coriander leaf which I hate so much I’d rather have carnal relations  with Anna Soubry than get it within 14ft of my mouth, as a consequence the green in my Thai green curry paste  comes from basil leaves.

The ingredients are all readily available in all good supermarkets, Asda even do a pack especially for the curry  which has lemon grass and galangal - this can be found in the fresh fruit and veg aisle. The kaffir lime leaves  can be found in the spices section of all good supermarkets.

I will say that of all the curries I’ve cooked over the years a Thai green lends it’s self very well to home  cooking and always goes down a treat with guests. This recipe will serve 4 adults easily.

Modern Cartoon Characters for Modern Times

Coloniescross, Going Postal
Islam needs characters that children can look up to and learn from, that much is clear from the indications we have from an Australian Muslim group which objects to that most offensive of things, the children's cartoon character, Peppa Pig.

I assume their objection is base on the fact that Peppa is indeed a cartoon Pig and therefore deeply offensive, as many cartoons and indeed all things porcine are to Islam and, by extension, to the prophet of Islam (PBUH).

I am not a writer of much more than the odd article for Going Postal but I happened to meet up with Colin Cross, a man with some time on his hands who is always happy to offer his services, without fear or favour, for the benefit of community relations.

He was happy to come up with a couple of story boards for a potential series, although, both of us being unable to draw for toffee I am only able to present the text.

Colin suggests it be read in the style of a children's book, rather than a script, although he feels it would be eminently adaptable for the small screen, as such he has sent a draft to the Head of Children's Entertainment at the ABBC.

The GP Advent Calendar of Cuisine - Javelin's Plum Bread and Butter Pudding

Javlin's Plum Bread and Butter Pudding (like pets it's not just for Christmas)

The quantities given here will fit in a dish approximately 11”x8”x2” deep. This will give 6-8 generous portions  of what is an exceedingly rich, but delicious, pudding.

  • Acquire about a dozen, large juicy plums, which you need to wash, halve lengthwise, and stone

Lay the plums, cut-side up, in a buttered, oven-proof dish and place half a teaspoonful of caster sugar in the  centre of each. Bake at about 200°C for 20-25 minutes, until tender, and the juices have run.

While you're waiting enjoy a small’ish, single-malt scotch (I like Auchentoshan Three Wood but YMMV).

Everything You Always Wanted to Know About "Der Spiegel"

It may not be a very well-known fact all around but Der Spiegel (one of Germany’s leading political weeklies) has a somewhat murky past. When it comes to some of its leading figures, there are many facts that are never spoken of too loudly, at least not in public.

http://www.horizont.net/news/media/18/Spiegel-Trump-172687-detailp.jpeg
The End of the World
(as we know it)
As it happens, Spiegel founder Rudolf Augstein and many of his leading senior editors had quite a career before they started “the German news magazine” that it smugly appointed itself to be via its tag line. Now, for the benefit of the uneducated, let’s quickly remind ourselves exactly which chapter of German history lay before the founding of Der Spiegel in British occupied Hanover in 1946.

Shouldn’t be too hard, really.

Rudolf Augstein was born in Hanover in 1923. He entered the Wehrmacht and was posted on the Russian front as a signals corps officer which he left as a lieutenant, decorated with an Iron Cross 2nd Class. He was demobbed and sent home, where in 1946 he was approached by three British press officers (John Seymour Chaloner, Harry Bohrer and Henry Ormond) with a view to founding a German news weekly, a copy of the American “Time” magazine, in the British zone.

What would have happened if Hillary had won?

Truthsayer, Going Postal
This evening – 2nd December – my son (attending primary school) posed me with this question after we watched “the  best Trump video ever” on Youtube together, his interest piqued once more in the whole affair following the Ohio  rally.

It was a really good question, and having to answer quickly and simply to a child put it somewhat into perspective.

My answer was that the Democrats and the whole crooked leadership of the West has been stirring up trouble with  Russia for some time, and they would have picked a war with her and it would have been a terrible thing. We would  have been sucked into it. In Europe we would have run into big trouble, with massive casualties, as invading  Russia is a serious undertaking; eventually I would have been called up to replace the losses. He knows about the  Somme so I used that as an example of the loss of life.

The parallels with the Grande Armée, Japan in 1939, and Barbarossa in 1941 are not good omens. From memory the  Axis suffered a million casualties in the first six months, and I wonder if the NWO would have the guts for it,  but then they seem to have the guts to impose endless atrocities on their domestic populations. For them the end  justifies the means.

Modern fairy tales for a very modern world

Coloniescross, Going Postal
We all love the ABBC right, we love it for the news and drama, we love it for its dancing shows and its documentaries and we  love it for its Children’s programmes. But there is something that the ABBC does that often goes unnoticed and consequently  un-applauded.

It gives license payers money to organisations that selflessly go out into the community and pass on their wisdom to others,  the ABBC especially likes doing this sterling work with children. It is easier to mould the mind of a child to think in the  “proper” way than it is to convince a cynical old adult that he or she must change their way of thinking and or acting or  risk being “pigeon holed” as an ist or a phobe of one kind or another.

Currently, as part of their 100 Women of 2016 they are supporting a woman (a feminazi, if you will) that is going into  Primary Schools and, working with children as young as 7 or 8 they are re-writing fairy tales to “reflect” more accurately  the modern world.

This intrigued me, so I looked into the whole fairy tale thing and discovered that all cultures and races had them in their  history, I also discovered that there are some recent ones that need no “bringing up to date”.

With the permission of the author, Stephanie Fried, I reproduce one below, verbatim.  She recommends it as suitable for  children of all 3 sexes aged five and above.

The Truth About Post Truth

Kipper, Going Postal

We live in a post truth world.

This year Post Truth has been named the Oxford English dictionaries’ word of the year. Despite it  being two words. In our world National socialists (Nazis) are labelled far right. Anyone the left  does not approve of is labelled a Nazi. And therefore 'Far Right'. Despite Nazis being socialists and  by definition 'Left Wing'. In our post truth world everyone who isn't a leftist is a right wing Nazi.  People who judge others on the basis of their skin colour are not racist. People who judge others on  their gender are not sexist. The Labour party actively going out of their way to choose candidates on  the basis of their gender, but aren't sexist. Feminists call for the death of all men, but aren't  sexist. Yet people who try to treat people equally and not judge people on their gender are sexist.  We live in a world where feminists want to be treated equally by men yet when men do treat them as  they would treat men they flip shit. We live in a world where equality means different rules for different people. Where equal rights means certain rights for some but not for others.

A Dream. A Fantasy. Surely nothing like this could ever happen? Part Three

1642again, Going Postal
The Lord Protector’s Government has been in office for 90 days and has unleashed a torrent of  financial, regulatory, legislative, administrative, and other reforms, the pace of which leaves the  Civil Service breathless.

Large numbers of retired and other citizens with expertise have volunteered to provide support in  specific areas so that the Protector is not solely dependent on the Civil Service to maintain the  pace of policy fine tuning and implementation.  Likewise, firms of accountants, specialist  consultants and lawyers have been ‘encouraged’ to donate time and expertise to support this  initiative.  Rumours of promised peerages and knighthoods are circulating for those considered to  have supported their country in the hour of need.

Nevertheless, the pace of new change is continuing to retain momentum and prevent opposition from  coalescing.  The House of Lords is the immediate problem as it is the bastion of the discredited  liberal consensus and therefore, with a radical reform already announced, it is dissolved and  suspended until the new House of Lords can come into place.

The GP Advent Calendar of Cuisine - White Chocolate, Coffee & Rum Terrine

NOT White Chocolate, Coffee & Rum Terrine

Here's my Christmas recipe.

500g White chocolate broken into squares
250g mascarpone cheese
250ml full cream milk
Sachet gelatine
2 tablespoons instant coffee
2 tablespoons of dark rum

Microwave the milk and chocolate to melt. Add to macaroni (Ed, mascarpone?) with the gelatine (also melted). Mix.

Split the mixture into two equal halves. Add the coffee and rum to one half of mix, combine, then pour this into a narrow lightly oiled tin/mould - a small rectangular bread tin will do.

Put in freezer until firm.

"In order to be protected under the Equality Act 2006, a religion or belief must be able to be generally recognised as being:

* cogent
* serious
* cohesive
* compatible with human dignity.

In broad terms, the first three of these mean, in turn: comprehensible; practiced with regularity and earnestness by adherents; and capable of being recognised as a common practice / system."

I was pondering the fact that certain religious groups seem to be allowed to get away with worse than murder as their culture is shaped by their religion and, therefore, must be accomodated by everyone else.  Luckily right at that moment God decided to talk to me and this is what he said:

Layo & Bushwacker - Love Story (Tim Deluxe Finally Remix)

Now is the winter of our discontent

We have spoken at length on these hallowed pages about what we call "The Narrative" when we're talking politely.

https://startheory.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/the-prisoner-number-6-791710.jpg?w=424&h=282
Be seeing you!
Obviously, it means different things to different people and as it evolves over time it is quite hard to define what it is and what it isn't made up of. Yet, it can be diagnosed quite easily: it is an attempt to make the facts fit the fiction. Or in other words: a lie.

Whether "The Narrative"  qualifies as a "white lie" is neither here nor there. I'm not terribly interested in the morality of people who ostentatiously and ostensibly claim to have only my best interests at heart, you see. It's not just that I don't trust them but I also trust myself a good deal more when it comes to taking good care of myself. So thanks, but no thanks.

Some would call me obstinate, even cynical, because of my character. I tend to think that I'm being very realistic in saying that as a rule, I wouldn't believe in any motive that cannot be substituted for a baser one. And yes, I do think that when I mistrust people, they've got only themselves to blame for it.
