Jeremy and Seumas in “The Road to Havana”

DH, Going Postal

“No, Tom. For the last time, there will not be any free sandwiches,” groaned an ashen-faced Seumas Milne, raking an exasperated hand through his thinning hair. “And Shami, I think I know what you’re going to ask and the answer is no - you cannot, and I repeat cannot, claim your three hundred pounds attendance allowance for this.”

Milne leaned pitifully on his elbows against a shabby wooden lectern and gazed grimly upon the assembled members of Jeremy Corbyn’s Shadow Cabinet. They sat in three unruly rows upon a mismatched assortment of plastic swivel chairs, wooden seats and Chesterfield armchairs they had dragged in from their respective offices.

Some of them disinterestedly thumbed their mobile phones and some muttered bitterly under their breath. Diane Abbott lifted up a black veil and briefly checked her face in a compact mirror. At least someone, thought Milne, was taking this halfway seriously.

Under every stone lurks a politician

Flying Hippo, Going Postal
I am sure that all the contributors to Going Postal appreciate the high standard of puns provided by me on a  regular basis. No, no, no need for any thanks, your warm comments and the regular ‘coat’ piccies are thanks enough.   I am very pleased to report that I have purchased three new joke books from Amazon and I am putting the final  touches to a Christmas Pun Special, How do sheep in Spain say Merry Christmas? Fleece Navidad! You know the drill  by now! I can imagine you are getting a bit excited!

But it may surprise you to know I am not just GP’s self-appointed Pun Master but I am also a highly prized academic  from the University of Dewsbury where I received a double first in Philosophy, Politics and Eid.

I am worried that due to the real complex nature of our political system, some of you may feel a little left  behind, but fear not Hippo’s like to help and the Flying one is no exception.

I have picked four of our favourite politicians and put together a short biography on each one, just pertinent  facts so you are fully informed. This will enable you to impress your friends no end down the pub on a Friday  night.

1642again, Going Postal
The Lord Protector’s government is now approaching the start of its second month in office.  The opposition, both in and outside Parliament is stunned at the multi-faceted series of legal measures already announced and commencing implementation.  Opposition is fragmented as each special interest focuses on defending its own corner although some are trying to ally to broaden resistance, but this takes time.  A multiplicity of legal challenges are being prepared.

The Protector’s Cabinet has been finalised and is ready to launch phase 2 – the Short term – over course of days 30 to 90.  The intention is to maintain the momentum established by the First Phase measures, to keep the opposition off balance, and to start to implement some items developed in the first 28 days.  The principal measures to be announced in Phase 2 and subsequently implemented include:

Nuremberg: A Soviet Brainchild

Bart kantatas, Going Postal

The other day, I learned from Tiredofeulies that Russia had withdrawn its backing from the International Criminal  Court.  This sounded like good news and sent me back to John Laughland’s excellent book, A History of Political  Trials (2008), to refresh my memory on why international tribunals are a worthy object of suspicion.

Cutting to the chase, if we cannot trust the Nuremberg Trials to provide a paradigm of blindfold international  impartiality, what can we trust?  Not much, is the short answer, and one of the reasons is that the Nuremberg model  was tainted by Soviet jurisprudence.  The following synopsis of Laughland’s chapter on the subject attempts to  explain why.

It is a popular misconception that Nuremberg was a trial of the Holocaust.  The extent of the Holocaust only  emerged during the trials themselves.  There were four Counts listed on the indictment, of which the first two are  central to present purposes.

There’s Nothing Immoral About Tax Avoidance

Vir Cantium, Going Postal

So there is much talk these days of the ‘morality’ of tax avoidance – or rather, the supposed lack of morals on the part of those exercising their right not to pay more than they are being asked for.

To suggest that tax avoidance is immoral would logically require two assertions to be true; that:

(a) tax is moral
(b) those avoiding it are immoral

As well as the implication that avoiding tax is harmful, in the long term, for ‘society’.

Let’s deal with each of these in turn.

Tax is, essentially, demanding money with menaces. The State, of course, is in a fairly unique position in being able to do this without being dealt with in the same fashion as the Krays.

Welcome to the age of Trump

Rorschach, Going Postal

We likely are witnessing the end of an era, something last seen with the elections of Margaret Thatcher and Ronald  Reagan in the 1980s that heralded a seismic shift in political and economic thinking. What could be termed the neo  liberal consensus broadly held sway in the Western world until November 2016 and Donald J. Trump becoming President  under a banner of reactionary right wing populism that rejected globalisation and conventional political and  cultural attitudes which were the prevailing views for the last few decades. Over night, the Republicans were no  longer the party of balanced budgets and low deficits but of stimulas and bringing back jobs from overseas. It was  no longer the party of the American century seeking domination over the rest of the world but of self interest when  it suited. It was no longer the party of free trade but of protectionism and isolationism. It is now the party of  the strongman leader.

The Battle of Sidi Rezegh

The Buttscratcher Jimmy, Going Postal
Today is the anniversary of a little known battle of World War 2, the Battle of Sidi Rezegh. It was one of several battles of Operation Crusader, the operation to relieve Tobruk. It has a significance for me on two fronts. Firstly I proudly served in J (Sidi Rezegh) Battery Royal Horse Artillery and along with members past, present and future I will be raising a glass to remember. This little known battle earned J Battery its Honour title of ‘Sidi Rezegh’ thanks to the actions of 29 year old Second Lieutenant George Ward Gunn.

On 21 November 1941 at Sidi Rezegh Airfield in Libya. 2 Lt Gunn was the commander of A Troop of J Battery RHA. These four QF 2 pounder anti-tank guns mounted portee on trucks were part of a battery of twelve guns attached to the Rifle Brigade.

An attack earlier in the day was driven off but the main attack was by 60 German tanks. Gunn - in an unarmoured vehicle - drove between the guns under his command, encouraging and reorganising them as the battle progressed. Three guns and their crews were already knocked out when the last was hit. Except the sergeant, the crew were dead or disabled and the vehicle set alight. The battery commander Major Pinney attacked the flames and Gunn crossed the enemy fire to join him. Gunn took over the gun aiming and firing it with the sergeant acting as his loader. Despite enemy fire and the danger of the flames exploding the ammunition with which the portee was loaded, Gunn fired 40- 50 rounds from the QF 2 pounder gun and set two enemy tanks on fire before he himself was killed by being shot through the head.

Peter Doonack - FUNKY GROOVE YA! (2016)

Pataphysics: the science of imaginary solutions

"Joan was quizzical, studied pataphysical science in the home." So warbled a winsome Paul McCartney in one of his most loathed compositions "Maxwell's Silver Hammer". Lennon despised it and McCartney wore out the last of his dwindling credit with the band by insisting on a marathon studio session to get it right.

The pataphysical reference did not gain much traction at the time, but those in the know were pleased to hear the word uttered at all. It was one of those rare occasions in my life when I was indeed "in the know." I was studying French at Leeds University in the late 60s, and the department was populous enough to warrant an annual student-produced play. I have to say that the onset of my intake caused a considerable earthquake. We suddenly descended on the faculty in a flurry of hair, denim and attitude. Pipe-smoking, sports coat-wearing staff and students looked upon us like modern men must have observed a tribe of Neanderthals shambling into view. We were trouble. Forced to live in digs terrorised by craggy landladies, we took on the establishment for the right to live wherever we chose - and won. We lacked deference. We were surly to lecturers who preened and primped around in a bubble of secure academia. We were overtly lazy. We drank heavily in the Union Bar. Substances were inhaled. We started a band (with me, a left-hander, using an upside down bass.) Not a pretty picture, but it turned out that we were the future. The individual who had hitherto produced the French plays decided to stand down, and the mantle passed to yours truly. The choice of play was obvious: Ubu Roi by Alfred Jarry.

Remembering Remembrance

https://files.foreignaffairs.com/styles/large-crop-landscape/s3/images/articles/2015/05/06/baldwin_victory_in_europe.jpg?itok=t1T-GLvn

When I saw the Remembrance Day ceremony in Whitehall for the first time a couple of years ago, I was profoundly moved by it. My fondness for this event has not decreased one bit since then. I’ve never been to the Cenotaph on the day because I’m rather afraid it’d blow me to pieces. So, I watch the event on the telly.

It is quite stark and solemn as ceremonies go but seems to turn to the lighter side once the dignitaries have retired and the walk past begins. It always makes me happy to see people alive who have liberated Europe and indeed the World from Fascism more than 70 years ago.

It’s important to understand that freedom isn’t free. Our present had to be won by very determined men and women and it is continuously being won by them on our behalf. For this, they ought to be thanked and remembered by everybody.

In my case, they may not have intended it the way it turned out to be when they gave me a future worth living for because I am German. Still, I consider myself very lucky to enjoy the collateral benefit of their anti-fascist intervention. And I consider myself not odd in the least for saying that I owe them a debt of gratitude I can never repay and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.

The men and women of both World Wars have not only saved their own country and friendly nations from annihilation but even future generations of what were at the time their mortal enemies. This, I believe, proves beyond any doubt that they were on the right side of history. They did whatever needed to be done for the best of reasons: mankind never should be slaves. This is their testament and we ought to live up to it.

Donald Trump, the Political Class and Western civilisation

'So called' AW, Going Postal

Western civilisation has arguably been built upon strong Christian moral values, respect and tolerance for each other and a hard work ethic driven by pride and national identity.

No doubt this statement would bring criticism from left wing nut cases, claims of racism or some other rubbish. However it is pretty much indisputable really. From the industrial revolution, through the Second World War, Cold War and technological age Britain and the USA have been at the forefront of advancement and prosperity. This success has been constructed upon a sound legal system and a free market economy (capitalism).

It infuriates me that over the past 20 years our world has been hijacked by lawyers, human rights activists, feminists and pretty much any other minority group you can think of. They seem hell bent on destroying our way of life so they can vindictively claim that capitalism has failed. This is cultural Marxism, a culture forced upon the west by very people who today make up our political class. They are destroying our world by wrapping it up in red tape.

A Dream. A Fantasy. Surely nothing like this could ever happen?

1642again, Going Postal
The time is a few years into the future.  The country, the world, is in turmoil.  The financial system is crashing, immigration is out of control, race and ideological riots are in the streets, public services disintegrating, no go areas proliferating, inflation out of control, the state edging towards insolvency…  And Britain is better placed than many of its neighbours.

The Lord Protector has been reborn in answer to his country’s prayers and has been elected to lead a new majority government.  And like all great military men he has a plan and will move fast from the first moment of taking office.  The plan has immediate, short term, medium term and long term stages, and above all it has clarity of purpose.

Intrinsically conservative he will work within the bounds of the ancestral constitution and the law, but will use any legal means to break any impasse that threatens the momentum of his plan’s enactment.  The vested opposing interests are strong and bitterly determined, and he expects brutal resistance on every aspect of his plan’s implementation.

"A Sort Of Stinking Delequescent Saccharine"

Roger Ackroyd, Going Postal

In Ezra Pound’s early poem of rhyming couplets, “L’Homme Moyen Sensuel” (1916) he takes a pop at the crassness,  as he saw it, of American culture:

The constitution of our land, O Socrates
Was made to incubate such mediocrities

Written shortly before he decamped to British shores the poem attacked the narrow-mindedness and what one might  term a lack of intellectual and aesthetic vigour in the American psyche. Pound went on to do much to promote the  work of James Joyce, T.S.Eliot and Ernest Hemingway for which we have much to be grateful. His later years were,  unfortunately, less distinguished being that he professed eager support for Mussolini and Hitler, broadcast  anti-American and anti-Semitic rhetoric during WW2 and was charged with treason in 1945. He was lucky not to  have followed the same 8 o’clock walk that William Joyce - Lord Haw Haw - undertook after his trial. Instead he  was incarcerated for many years before being released in 1958

Voight-Kampff: Are You Human?

Sometimes, in spite of the obvious expectation of disappointment and frustration, one is compelled to ask a leftie why - really why - they come out with all this shit. Mostly one is confronted with a barrage of the kind of make-it-up-as-you-go-along school debating society codswallop that would only impress a long gone, but much loved, public-school teacher.

Sometimes you can adopt a more subtle angle - asking "how would you feel if XYZ leftablishment sacred narrative were proven false?" You'll still get the playground crap, and a bunch of dissonance-inspired ad-ipse (if ad-hominem is based on the badness of the opponent, ad-ipse would be argument based on the proponent's goodness), but hidden among all this diversionary verbal squid-ink you'll hear some truth. Eventually one of them will simply say, "I cannot believe I could be deceived that way".
Clearly, the truth referred to is that they believe they could not be deceived - in reality they are deceived about factual and testable things all the time.

"Sire, the peasants are revolting-!" *The Socialist master turned his eyes from his newspaper and onto Jeeves with a smile.*

"Of course Jeeves, they are indeed revolting people, they smell odd and think Brexit is such a wonderful thing for our country, when it is not."

*Jeeves frowned and then proceed to explain what he meant.* "Not exactly what I meant Sire, I mean the peasants and the press are rather displeased by the decision from the high court regarding Brexit and Article 50, cue the peasants revolting Sire."

The Politics of Hatred and Division

Coloniescross, Going Postal

I wrote a post which appeared on Kippers last article and I offer no apology for reprising it here because it got me thinking about how certain political and ideological systems can only thrive by creating specific hate figures. One of the things that has struck me is the ability of the “so called” right to hate (if hate is the right word) once they have looked deeply at the evidence for said “hatred” and decided, based on assumption that there are reasonable grounds. I personally don’t define this as hate but when people want to destroy the natural order of things, either because of a political or religious ideology then they need to be challenged. When the same people attack those challenging their ideas with vitriol and prescriptive terminology this will generate a reply. Here the comparison ends because the Left has a history of choosing a demographic or an idea to hate and then focussing on that one thing in an effort to divide and, ultimately rule.  The results of this hatred are, to my knowledge anyway always catastrophic.

Remembrance day in France

Swiss French Bob

While researching the place I'm living in I came across the local website which included a notice on the Remembrance Day ceremony held today at 11.30 am. All across France it's the same, every town and every village holding a ceremony including the Mayor, veterans, the local police, firebrigade, local children and others.

It's only a five minute walk from where I live now so thought I'd go along, not having been to a Remembrance Day service in ages. Fortunately I found a suit in the garage, put that on and dug my old beret out.

Our Wor(l)d” is an artistic outreach community in North Islington. Our stated aim is to help our community integrate better in to the New Britain, a country of anti-racism, anti-imperialism and no man spreading at all. We are a creative co-operative that is opposed to white (male) privilege and climate change and stand for a country that is united behind the leadership of a truly progressive Party. We are also pro-democracy and want to give everybody a fair share in our country, provided they share our political ideals and support our fight. Therefore, we are particularly proud to help the marginalised victims of institutionalised racism, xenophobia and post-Brexit hate crime this country is rife with. To overcome the small minded bigotries of our Little-English country men and women, we have taken on the artistic struggle. Our artists’ collective has taken up creative writing to help us all integrate better in zhe Britain to be, through sharing of our personal and political experience in an inclusive, not-for-profit format (with generous funding from the EU, the BBC and an unnamed philanthropist). We are therefore very proud to present the results of our creative endeavour in our annual exhibition.

Our first exhibit is a work by M’bombo Naggene, a twelvish Syrian refugee boy from Aleppo. In a poem entitled “bushmeat”, M’bombo reflects on the experience of a young child discovering his body in the context of war, political persecution and poverty caused by capitalist exploitation and latter day imperialism:

Preaching with Kipper : Remain Tears, Innit Blud!

Going Postal
As you all know, or at least you should, there was a high court ruling that states Parliament must vote to allow the Prime Minister to trigger article 50. I did ask Mrs K what the lawyer talk was for that, but it hurt my brain to read. The problem lies with the fact that the referendum was not 'binding'. It was a mere opinion poll. This is David Cameron's fault. The fucking mong. Rather than having it written into law that the result will be enacted by the Government. He didn't. Because he's a special needs donkey. This means that parliament does not have to respect the result. Thus far we know that the Scot Nats, illiberal Anit-Democratss and a handful of Tory and Labour MP's will vote against the triggering of article 50. This means that numerous MP's will be betraying the British people. And I genuinely think they think there won't be fucking riots.

But what Is worse in my opinion is that the High Court has decided that the people are not the ultimate arbiters of the United Kingdom. And 650 mongtards in London are. This is a direct betrayal of the fundamentals of democracy.

Voting-fraud machines and the subversion of democracy, Part Two

Ted Teach, Going Postal

Voting-fraud machines :

The problem with using electronic machines to count votes which have been cast is that they are invariably programmed in some way. What that means is that there is an electronic program which has been loaded into them in some form or other to tell the machines what exactly they are required to do. Those programmes are not something which you can physically inspect in situ – they are a bunch of electronic “1”s and “0”s which are not visible at all. They are stored in a memory device within the voting machine but the memory chip looks the same to you and I no matter what program it holds in its internal workings.

In theory we could get to look at a paper version of the program which we have been told has been loaded into these machines but the vast majority of us would be none the wiser if we did so. Most of us would have absolutely no idea what the voting machines were actually being programmed to do and would have to take it on trust that they were doing what we would want them to do, i.e. count votes accurately and reliably without altering the results in any way whatsoever. (Note that we have already seen photographic evidence from the US of voting machines altering results or only providing a single choice of candidate.)

Voting-fraud machines and the subversion of democracy, Part One

The deployment of “voting machines” in the US has been the subject of a number of recent reports of late in both these hallowed pages and, I’m glad to see, in other outlets not subject to control under the globalist agenda. This article will explain why such machines are such an appallingly bad idea and why their continued existence should not be tolerated.

Opening remarks :

I’m sure that there are many people who are inclined to suppose that the marvels of modern technology are a “good thing” and that the old paper ballots are anachronistic and should therefore be replaced. Indeed, I’m given to understand that an article proposing exactly that recently appeared in that bastion of truth, honesty and democracy known as the “Guardian”. That such an article should have appeared in those justly vilified pages should immediately set alarm bells ringing.

If we lived in a world where most people were honest and truthful then maybe, just maybe, there would be no corruption and no-one would even think of trying to bend the rules to suit their own ends. Sadly, human nature being as hugely variable and unpredictable as it is, such a utopian society is unlikely to ever be more than a pipe-dream. Corruption in politics has doubtless existed as long as politics itself; I had already formed the opinion that politics was a vile and dirty business by the time I left school and my opinion of most of those who thereby claim the right to govern us has not improved since then. Indeed, I would suggest that politicians are now mostly regarded as the lowest of the low, considering their persistent blatant lying and general lack of morals. In fact, many of them appear to be lacking something fundamental to what makes up a complete human being. It’s difficult to get away from the notion that this is precisely why they came to be installed in their present positions of power in the first place.

Mobdro for those who are not familiar is a native android app that allows the user to access content that is  generally behind a Murdoch or Virgin paywall, and while there are almost an infinite amount of ways a user can  access such material both free and for a small monthly fee Mobdro is an easy to use, free and reliable all in  one solution that will give the end user access to subscription content. It is also worth mentioning that normal  terrestrial channels are available so it is perfect if you are not resident in the UK and want to watch UK  content.

Beyond Borders

1642again, Going Postal

I drank deep from the vats of the brewery the other night and some hours later the  fair muse of Hook Norton visited me in my dreams.

“Out-of-time Ironside,” she said in her sweetest Joan Greenwood lilt which made my  skin goose-pimpular, “to quiet your unstill spirit I bring you a vision, the first  of many, into which you must pour your energies and heart to help wage the  cultural struggle to reclaim our lost civilisation and the freeing of the peoples  of the West.”

My tongue was dry, my heart was racing, my mind buzzing (and not just from the  radiant nectar I had been supping) for she was fair beyond mortals, her voice of  paralysing mellifluence, her eyes commanding, such I that I could neither move nor  speak.

“You must write a script for a televisual series, a heroic epic set far into the  future.  Listen carefully to what I say…”

Under such an injunction, on her departure I was freed and commenced writing with  a frenzy worthy of the great master EoL himself.

Coronation Street with Going Postal

JWP, Going Postal

Scene: The Rovers Return. The Snug. Sometime in the run up to Christmas 1967.

Minnie: Eeeeew, Ena, do wind up your face. I’ve never sin thee looking so mardy in a long while.

Ena: I’ll have you know Minnie Caldwell, I’ve got good reason to be mardy. I’ve been fingered by the Vicar.

Minnie: Whatever for Ena? What on earth has he said?

Ena: Remember those Christmas Hampers we got from Albert Snodgrass on Inkerman Steet? Well, somebody has been through them and taken all the tins and the Dundee cake Family Size Slices. They were there last Tuesday because I checked them, but somebody has been in and the Vicar thinks it’s me.

Martha: Well Ena, I have to say………

Ena: I’ll bid you keep your mouth shut Martha Longhurst and whatever perverted thoughts you might be entertaining in that addled brain of yours……..

Martha: I was just going to say Ena……..

Minnie: I think you’d better shut up Martha. Ena’s never been fingered in her life. It’s not a happy experience for a woman of her years. Anyhow, Ena, on another matter, have you sold any tickets yet for the LGBTQ Christmas dinner?

Ena: I have not Minnie Caldwell, and I will not be selling any either. If you think I’m going to be party to men dressing up as women and women dressing up as men and parading their sordid wares up and down the Vestry Corridor you’ve got another think coming.

Minnie: Well I’ve sold two books of raffle tickets already. And I’ve volunteered to be on tea duty from two…….

Ena: You always were a sucker from a pretty boy Minnie Caldwell.

Martha: She’s always been a sucker for anything in trousers. Problem is, it’ll be the women whose in the trousers…………(Titters to self, holding dentures in for safety).

Minnie: Ena, have you ever met a homosexual?

Ena: If I had met a homosexuaaaaaaaal, do you think I’d want to tell you? I don’t need to meet one, I can smell one at two hundred imperial yards. They have a smell about them.

Minnie: I’ve never met a homosexual. I don’t even know what one looks like, never mind the smell. I think my nephew might be one. He goes to Morocco with his friend. They’ve been friends for five years now. I think they’re close.

Ena: There’s nothing I want to know about your nephew and his visits to Sodom and Gomorrah, Minnie Caldwell. And I’ve paid good money for this milk stout so I’d be obliged if you’d keep it to yourself.

JWP, Going Postal

Martha: Seems we ‘ave a lot we ‘ave to keep to ourselves these days.

Minnie: Anyway Ena, I don’t think they’ll be having the Christmas Dinner in the Church Hall this year. I heard the Vicar telling Mrs Evans that we’re housing twenty foreign children this year. They’re coming by bus from the Home Office.

Ena: “Suffer little children to come unto me.” I suppose the fingering cleric will be preaching that to us next Sunday. Well, he’ll be left in no doubt that if a single one of those dayglo’s sets foot in my broom cupboard it’ll be the starting whistle for World War Three. (bangs table)

Marth: I think some of them have already arrived. I was talking to Mrs Jefferies from Sebastopol Terrace. We can see each other from box room window. She was hanging out her husband’s smalls; they’re not very small and I think he has a problem with his digestion. He was gassed you know………………
